A conversation guide for kids and parents — what baptism means, how to know if your child is ready, and what to expect.
Baptism is an outward declaration of an inward decision. When someone gets baptized, they're publicly saying: "I belong to Jesus. I'm choosing to follow Him." It's one of the most powerful moments in a person's faith journey — and it can happen at any age.
At Hue.Church, we baptize by full immersion. You go under the water — symbolizing the death of your old life — and you come back up, declaring new life in Christ.
Jesus Himself was baptized (Matthew 3:13–17), and He commanded His followers to be baptized as well (Matthew 28:19). Baptism doesn't save you — only faith in Jesus does that — but it's an important step of obedience that God honors.
For kids, baptism is often a profound moment of ownership — when faith stops being "my parents' thing" and becomes entirely their own.
There's no perfect age — some kids are ready at 6, others at 12. Pray about it together and talk with our team. Here are signs your child may be ready:
When your child is ready, here's what to expect:
Connect with our team — Let us know your child wants to be baptized. We'll set up a time to talk with them and with you.
Pre-baptism conversation — A brief conversation to make sure your child understands what they're doing and why it matters.
Baptism Sunday — Your child is baptized during the service, surrounded by the entire church family. It's a celebration.
Use these questions to open up the baptism conversation at home.
Jesus, thank You for dying for us and rising again. We want to follow You — not just at church, but in everything. Help [your child's name] know deeply how much You love them, and give them the courage to declare that publicly before others. Amen.
